Your First IV: Exactly What to Expect at Every Step

The most common thing new clients tell me after their first visit is some version of: 'That was it?' There's an assumption that anything clinical must feel clinical — fluorescent lights, waiting rooms, paperwork. So let me walk you through exactly what your first IV experience actually looks like, step by step, with no surprises.
Step 1: You Book Online
You pick your formula, your time, and your setting — the Wellness Lounge or mobile service to your home, office, or hotel. A $100 deposit reserves your slot and applies toward your service. Every treatment is delivered by a licensed medical professional under strict safety protocols, the same standards you'd expect in any clinical setting.
Step 2: Intake and the Good Faith Exam
Before anything touches your arm, we complete a health intake — medications, history, allergies, and how you're feeling that day. Most IV services also require a Good Faith Exam, a brief telehealth evaluation confirming you're an appropriate candidate. It's quick, it's required, and it's the single most important safety step in the entire process — the FDA's oversight of infusion practices exists for a reason, and we take candidacy seriously.
Step 3: Placement — the Two-Minute Part
The needle part of the visit takes about two minutes. Most first-timers are surprised at how uneventful it is: a tourniquet, a quick stick you feel as a pinch, then the catheter stays and the needle doesn't. Once the line is set, you're comfortable for the rest of the visit. The CDC's one-and-only campaign set the bar for safe placement practices, and our supplies and technique reflect it.
Step 4: The Drip Itself
Now the part people actually remember: 45–90 comfortable minutes in your own space. Laptop open, show on, lights low, or a nap — your call. Your nurse sets the drip rate for comfort and monitors throughout. This is also when add-ons get layered in: extra fluids, B12, vitamin C, magnesium — see the full Add-ons & Upgrades menu if you want to plan ahead.
Step 5: Aftercare
We remove the line, apply pressure for a minute, and you're done — no downtime, no restrictions beyond keeping the small dressing dry for a few hours. Most clients feel the hydration effect within hours: fewer headaches, better energy, visibly better skin by the next morning. First-timers usually start with our Standard Hydration or Myers Lite, and about half of them book their second visit before the week is out.
The Honest Fine Print
Mild bruising at the insertion site happens occasionally and resolves in a few days. Not everyone is a candidate — that's what the screening is for. And IV therapy is wellness maintenance, not a treatment for disease. Curious whether it's right for you? Reach out with any question, or book your first session and feel the difference a liter actually makes.
